The Narrows: A game of hide and seek

Picture of the extract of the report of a Court of Enquiry relative to the grounding of Submarine AE2 on Buda Point, Port Mudros 10 March 1915

As AE2 approached the Narrows early on the morning of 25 April, she rose to periscope depth to confirm her position. She found herself close to the European shore, within firing range of Turkish forts. Wash from the periscope gave her postion away and she attracted fire. Over the next 24 hours she played a deadly game of hide and seek with Turkish naval forces and made a successful attack on the Turkish torpedo boat Peyk-i Sevket. This extract is from Able Seaman John Wheat's memoir.
